What is this all about?
This newsletter is created to provide plot information, rumors, and other various bits of continuity info for basis in roleplay. In order to keep roleplay in Ansteorra from a simple matter of asking boring daily information, this should give players and their characters topics to discuss.

Monetary Claims: With the king gone, news is heard of his bank records. Though his sizable account has been given to the queen, it seems that many are now approaching the royal coffers with records of unpaid fees and outstanding loans. Some have written records, and are indeed being paid, but it seems that merchants left and right are forging papers to get a piece of the pie.

How might you react?
-Warriors: Well, these past few days sure have been busy for you! Hauling tricksters left and right to the jails, you'd have quite a bit of resentment for most merchants and thieves right now. You're doing more work than any of them, and yet they have been the ones making illegitimate money. What a scam, eh?
-Mages: Your judgment has been called in to separate the false papers from the genuine. Perhaps you would be doing your duty, or using your skills to get yourself a much more worthwhile paycheck. Be on the lookout for shady dealers of forged papers.
-Merchants: Now's the time for good connections. You have a shot at getting a fine 'gift' from the absent king. Seek out those who can give you false papers, but be careful to keep such actions a secret. Be wary of mages, and others who could discover your secret purchases.
-Rogues: Those forgery skills have paid off! Your abilities, if you have them, are going at a fine price on the black market. If you're not already into this trade, you're a fool not to start now. With prosperity comes happiness.

Prince of Austia Needed: The Austian royal family is going to be holding a Grand Ball in the next few weeks. All of the royal families from Ansteorra, Launcia, Himo, Tharivol and Tigath will be in attendance, as well as no less than 500 guests chosen by the nobility. It seems that the princess of the kingdom is looking for a husband, and she'll be selecting from the worthy males in the guest list, as no kingdom in the area has a prince her age. Gossip abounds, who could the lucky suitor be?

How might you react?
-Nobles: Perhaps now would be a good time to travel to Austia, if you want to marry into Royalty!
-Everyone Else: Even if you don't think you can be picked, why not take time off to go have some fun?

Ghouls and Ghosts: With the approach of this coming harvest, cultist nature-worshippers and druids all across the borderline forests have been preparing for their festival of spirits, known as 'All Hallows Eve.' Though the average citizen knows little about the details of this obscure festival, the images of glowing faces and other frightening images all throughout the woods have shaken up more than just a few weary travelers. This is certainly not the first year that such rituals were observed, and in the past small villages have been raided for sacrifices and other ghoulish observances. Many are on edge, and guards have stepped up patrols across the borders to prevent any savage activity.

How might you react?
-Warriors: Even the most courageous would face such a task with apprehension. Those who are on patrol duty must stay vigilant while they shake with fear, afraid of vengeful spirits awakened in the dark.
-Mages: While you may know better than to believe in these spirits, there is no doubt that walking the streets at night in unprotected areas is far from safe. Indeed, you still have much to fear.
-Everyone: When will it end? Only the exceptional few have managed to find sleep, as the rest are awakened at all hours of the morning by savage howling, or other odd sounds amplified by their own paranoia. Needless to say, this is no time to rest easy.

Traveling Gypsies: A group of three caravans has entered the kingdom recently. Taking up residence in the plot of land near the Broken Dagger, the gypsies arriving in these caravans have taken up quite a liking to the tavern near them, as well as the general town it itself. However, they can't be called civilized or well mannered, and are causing all manners of ruckus around the city. The town guards are tolerating them - for now.

How might you react?
-Nobles: Peasants and rabble! These dirty folk will end up corrupting our whole populace! They should be disposed of as quickly as possible.
-Merchants: Wahey! Gypsies almost always travel extensively; who knows what riches they have with them! This is an impassable trading opportunity

-Commoners: A strange lot they are... but then again, how often is it that you meet folk as exotic and extravagant as this? Their dancing shows and storytelling elders are rather interesting, after all.

Royal Rumors: Rumors abound about why the King abdicated. Some say that it seems that he spent so much time in the brothels he ran up a massive tab, and depleted the royal treasury, rendering the entire Kingdom bankrupt and at the mercy of the brothel owners. Others say that some dark powers from Xanthia blackmailed the King into leaving.

How might you react?
-Everyone: Since the real reason for the abdication is unknown, many conspiracy theories have cropped up. Believe them or not, it seems that the only thing known about the sudden abdication of Goridona VI is that nothing is known at all.

Economic Report:
Due to the sealing of Valanthia, the price of spell components and scrolls have nearly tripled in price, as stocks throughout the continent are being depleted at a rapid rate. The demand for knockoff spell components, imported from across the ocean through Scarport has risen dramatically, though they are of dubious value. Some reports indicate that they may even be not much more than overpriced trash.
The main vein of mithril in the Launcian mountains has begun to pan out. Coupled with the rumored mysterious dissappearance of three warehouses full of ore, mithril prices have shot through the roof. It is rumored that some unscrupulous dwarves are secretly hoarding in an attempt to drive up the price.

How might you react?
-Mages: The price of spell components is taking a toll on your pocketbooks, or possibly your health, if those really are fake components...
-Merchants: Money can be made by playing the market, but you don't want to have too many angry mages at your front door when the Valanthia crisis is solved.
-Everyone Else: If you have Mithril, now's a good time to sell. But then again, perhaps you could wait, and see how high the price can go?

Dwarven Ingenuity: A couple of large crates, guarded by a host of armored dwarves, were wheeled into the city as of recent. Their destination was one of the many army mini-forts along the outskirts, where it was unloaded. The dwarves have been running about the place continuously, carrying all manner of strange tools and equipment. Something is likely being assembled.

How might you react?
-Elves: Those dwarves again… Sometimes it seems that they're fixing things that don't need to be--or shouldn't be--fixed. Who knows, maybe they'll come up with something actually useful?
-Warriors: This is getting a little out of hand. Sure, a few innovations on the battlefield are all fine and well, but these changes are simply too fast. We've been fighting for countless years by the sword and spear, why mess around with the whole concept of warfare?
-Mages: It's probably for the better if the army explores different ways of fighting. Either way, a little research can't hurt too much. If the dwarves aren't feeling too stubborn, maybe you can offer to help them?
-Everyone Else: What are the dwarves hiding? However curious you are as to what they're doing, you realize that it'll probably end up as a piece of junk. In recent years, though, military technology has been in heavy focus. Could this be something that will critically change the military situation on the whole of Calenndor?
